After our successful trip to Arizona in early February, the next stop slated for the competing team was USC’s show right here in LA. Unfortunately, with the rise of EHV-1 in Southern California and across the country, the risk was deemed too high and the show canceled for the safety of all horses. While of course we are sad to lose this opportunity to represent our school in the saddle, it’s more than worth it to know that our favorite teammates are being kept happy and healthy. And thanks to the hard work of our coach Sandrine and the flexibility of the other teams in our region, the UCLA team was able to put on a great show for Regionals at our very own facility in Bella Vista!
High-point riders from our region came to the barn on Saturday to represent their teams and get their shot at going to Zones in March. We were lucky enough to have not one but three riders—Carolyn Salas, Leyla Boyar, and Kalena Oorlog—come out and do us proud at the competition. Carolyn put down a great round for a 3rd place in open fences, while Kalena killed it as usual with a blue ribbon in introductory. Additionally, it was announced that co-president Claire Stockard was named Reserve Cacchione Rider for Zone 8. We are so proud of all our members who made it this far, and even more excited to announce that Kalena and Leyla will be moving on to ride at Zones in Stanford!
